Sir,

On July 3, Netherwood School, Saundersfoot, closed its doors after 60 years of providing education for pupils from all over the world.

This was a very sad occasion for the hundreds of staff, parents and pupils who, at some time or other, had been part of its long and successful history.

It was a wonderful school and after teaching there for 31 years, I can surely testify to this fact. Over the years, the school's academic, sporting and cultural achievements reflected the dedication of staff and pupils alike. The school enriched the lives of pupils in many ways, giving to all a true sense of values, self-discipline, encouraging individual talents and, above all, self-respect and respect for others. Hundreds of youngsters have entered adult life the better for being at Netherwood.

I hope my well-intentioned words reflect the feelings of many other people and form a fitting tribute to a much-loved school.

G. M. Phillips,

Former senior mistress.
