PRESIDENT Diane Rigden welcomed ladies to the December meeting of St Issell’s WI, with a special welcome to John Donohue, speaker for the evening. John spent 20 years in the police force, and has written four books about the amusing aspects of his job.
John had a wealth of funny stories to tell ladies which had everyone chuckling. Jeanette John thanked him for a most entertaining talk, and several ladies purchased his books.
Following a short break, everyone enjoyed delicious nibbles and fruit punch provided by the outgoing committee, with lots of chatter.
A short business meeting followed, Anne Leech being thanked for the flowers for the top table, and birthday wishes going to Shirley Cunningham, Pat Poole and Sandra John. Diane read through the newsletter, several ladies were interested in the Wales Conference in Aberystwyth on March 26. There were some spare seats on the Cardiff shopping trip on January 8.
Bev distributed the programmes for the coming year, and thanks was expressed to her and Anne Slade for all their hard work. Diane thanked everyone for donated cards which she would be delivering to the residential homes in the locality.
December’s competition winner was Rachel Jones, and the first prize in the bumper raffle went to Shirley Cunningham. Ladies had donated £2 instead of giving Christmas cards, the amount raised being put in a draw, which was won by Joy Nixon and would be donated to a charity of her choice.
Diane wished ladies a Happy Christmas and a healthy and peaceful 2026, reminding everyone that the January meeting would be at 2pm in the Regency Hall, Saundersfoot.
