As the young football players from the Narberth Youth FC Under 13s team prepare for the start of the new season, they know they have already scored an important goal, after finding out that they will now be kicking off wearing a new, NatWest branded strip.

The team called into NatWest Pembroke on Saturday to collect their new kit and to help the branch celebrate the fact they are now open six days a week. NatWest Pembroke opened its doors for the first time on a Saturday on September 6.

The initiative providing Narberth Youth FC Under 13s with their new NatWest strip forms part of an all Wales programme, which was launched in January 2005 by the bank to strengthen the ties between their staff and communities. Narberth Youth FC were nominated for the award through Huw Simpkins, who is a customer services officer at the Pembroke branch. Huw also assists to raise much needed funds for the club.

He said: "The Under 13s team draws in players from all over Pembrokeshire and it is really difficult for teams like ours to raise funds for kit, and this scheme is a superb way for the bank to assist and to strengthen ties with the local community. It is great that NatWest has agreed to give its support to the Narberth Youth FC Under 13s just because of my involvement. When you give up your spare time to work for an important part of the community, such as a youth organisation like this team, it's great to know that the bank is willing to give you its support."

Jo Harries, branch manager at NatWest Pembroke, said: "The handing over the kit to the Narberth Youth FC Under 13s team on Saturday was a great way to support a local community team as well as celebrating the fact we are now open for service for six days a week. The opening of the branch on Saturdays followed customer feedback which showed that opening the doors on a Saturday was top of the wish list for this important town. What is great about this presentation is we have shown that there is more to NatWest Pembroke than just being a branch that prides itself on the service it delivers; it also is an important part of the local community."
