An intrepid young visitor to the recent Pembrokeshire County Show was the winner of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority’s Wildlife Challenge.

Owen McLoughlin, aged eight and from Crymych, successfully spotted 10 wildlife cards across the showground, and entered himself into a prize draw, winning £50 for his efforts.

National Park Authority chairman, Clr. Mike James, presented Owen with his cheque at Castell Henllys Iron Age Village and said: “We hoped to raise awareness in a fun way of some of the special plants, animals and birds that we help conserve in the National Park and encourage people to explore different tents across the show.

“We would like to say thank you to the local organisations who agreed to help with the challenge, including Macmillan, NFU, FUW, CLA Cymru, RNLI, Pembrokeshire College, RSPB, Pembrokeshire Tourism, Capestone Organic Poultry and Federation of Small Businesses.”

Owen and his family enjoyed an afternoon at the authority owned and managed Castell Henllys Iron Age Village, the only Iron Age village in the UK reconstructed on the exact site our Celtic ancestors lived 2,000 years ago.
