Members of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park’s development management committee made a site visit to Saundersfoot Beach on Monday (May 10) to view the subject of planning application NP/21/0172/TPO to fell the Monterey Cypress on Saundersfoot Beach.
Not an official public meeting, it did gain interest from supporters of saving the tree who just happened to be on the beach at that time. These included the Friends of Saundersfoot and District and members of the ‘Save Saundersfoot’s Lonely Tree’ group.
An independent up-to-date arborist report has recently been presented to PCNPA by the Friends and the ‘Save Saundersfoot’s Lonely Tree’ group to support their objections to felling this iconic wonder of nature.
You can discover more about this historic tree which has stood for over 80 years on Scar Rock and the campaign to save it by joining the ‘Save Saundersfoot’s Lonely Tree’ group on Facebook, where you can view the up-to-date arborist report which details required remedial works that would enable this tree to remain healthy for future generations to behold.
“Following a care plan, this rare ‘survivalist’ would be an asset and tourist attraction for many years to come,” said one campaigner.
