DYFED Powys Criminal Justice Board's communications officer, Tess Treharne, has won a national award for co-ordinating the Local Crime Community Sentence (LCCS) in Dyfed Powys. The LCCS scheme involves magistrates and probation officers giving interactive, case study based presentations to local groups across the area. These presentations improve public confidence in sentencing and raise awareness of the effectiveness of community penalties. Jim Leach, national LCCS co-ordinator, said: "It is very good once again to see Dyfed Powys recognised in these annual awards. The pioneering and consistently excellent work that continues tirelessly to be carried out by Tess is an inspiration and a model which is taken up elsewhere in England and Wales." The LCCS scheme in Dyfed Powys is now in its third year. Any group can receive this presentation - the audience is taken through a case from the description of the crime through to sentencing and punishment. The audience is encouraged to participate themselves in the decision-making process. Chief officer of Dyfed-Powys Probation and Dyfed Powys Criminal Justice Board chair, Caroline Morgan, said: "This award, presented by the Lord Chief Justice to Tess Treharne, is a great tribute to Tess and the LCCS Scheme here in Dyfed Powys. The exceptional skills that Tess brings to her job as Dyfed Powys Criminal Justice Board's communications officer are very special and much appreciated by her colleagues."
