Narberth's new coaching director, Keith Eaton, was unveiled before 150 supporters at the club's recent sponsors' evening.

The former Dunvant coach has been appointed to succeed the highly successful Richard Jones who has resigned because of his increasing workload from other commitments.

Keith Eaton played 300 games for Dunvant as an outside-half from 1979 to 1989 and then worked as assistant coach to Brian Thomas as Dunvant moved from the lower echelons to the Premiership of Welsh Rugby.

An experienced level three WRU coach, Keith had three seasons at Bynea, Penclawdd and Maesteg, respectively, as well as a 12-year coaching association with Dunvant.

Married with three children, Keith has business interests locally and spends the majority of his time in Pembrokeshire, hence his decision to leave Dunvant and to coach Narberth.

Speaking at the sponsors' evening he said: "Narberth is a family club with ambition and is run on very similar lines to Dunvant. I am looking forward to working with the players and have been impressed with the fitness, agility and skill levels of the squad."

Continuing, he said: "I would like to thank Richard Jones for providing the base for the development of the squad."

Speaking of his plans for the future, he said: "I would like the club to evolve. Youngsters will be encouraged to compete for first team places and the Athletic team will be watched on a regular basis with a view to spotting the players who can compete in division two (and one) of the league."

Eaton said that the club had recruited former Dunvant number 10 Simon Daniel, stating that he was a major signing for the Otters. In addition, he announced that the club will be signing a current Tongan international, as well as other quality players.

He considered that Narberth should have a squad of at least 25 players, all of whom should have the ability to play in division one.

Fully committed to an open style of management, he believes that pre-season preparation is vital and as a result he will arrange quality opposition for the Narberth squad during August prior to the first league fixture against one of his former clubs, Maesteg, at home on Saturday, September 1. Aberavon will visit Narberth on Saturday, August 11, in the first of the these matches.

In introducing Keith Eaton to everyone at the sponsors evening, club secretary Tony Jones said: "We would like to express our appreciation to Richard Jones who has done a terrific job for the club both as a player and during his two periods as senior coach.

"The club accepted his resignation with regret, but recognised the increasing work load of his other commitments."
