After a great deal of planning and behind the scenes work, the Transition Narberth fruit and nut project has now reached its planting stage.
On Sunday, hardy volunteers braved the wintry weather and planted nine trees at PLANED in Narberth. The trees included walnut, apple, pear and cherries.
Chris Lawrence, coordinator, of Transition Narberth, was delighted to see the project literally beginning to grow and thrive.
He said: "It's wonderful that after a lot of preparatory work we can actually see fruit and nut tree planting taking place. This will make Narberth a town with a future of free food for generations to come. To see people from all age groups becoming inspired by the project bodes well for its future vitality!"
With warmer weather approaching, more planting sessions have been planned.
The dates and locations are: 10.30 am on Sunday at the Bloomfield Centre in Narberth; February 13 in the churchyard in Narberth; Saturday and Sunday, February 19 and 20, 10 am - 4 pm, in the community orchard at Narberth Allotments; and 2 pm on February 24 at Narberth Swimming Pool.
