Children from Narberth School stepped-up last week when Daffy the Big Yellow duck was looking for support to help Narberth and Whitland Rotary support The Sandy Bear Children’s Bereavement Charity and Rotary’s Local Charities.

Children from the school paid £1 to bring their furry friends to a teddy bears picnic at the school on Friday.

The sun appeared just in time for the children to meet outside in their classroom bubbles.

Laura from the school said that it was wonderful to see the children all together outside since the start of the pandemic. The children loved having their furry friends at the picnic and staff said it was wonderful to see them all smiling and enjoying themselves in the school setting.

The purpose of the Teddy Bears Picnic is to support the Sandy Bear Charity who support children in times of bereavement of parents, siblings, grandparents, pets or even break ups.

“It’s such a valuable service and we are very keen to support this worthy cause,” said Headteacher Mrs. Ward.

The children raised £265 on the day and every child’s name will go into the Narberth and Whitland Rotary’s virtual duck race due to be run on May 31.

“If parents or grandparents wish to purchase more ducks they can do so online by going to www.nwrotary.co.uk,” said Rotarian Mary Adams.

Rotarians Elaine Bradbury and Tony Ensom were able to present winners of the Rotary Competitions to ‘Young Artist’ Phoebe Mason and ‘Young Writer’ Enzo Stephenson.

Their entries will now go forward to the West Wales Championships.
