Staff and volunteers of Narberth Museum returned from the Museum of the Year 2013 award ceremony disappointed at not winning the £100,000 prize, but still buoyed up by the wave of publicity that being a finalist had generated.

"We were by far the smallest museum on the shortlist," said curator Pauline Griffiths, "and the only one not to receive any public funding.

"We did well to be placed alongside such prestigious national museums and we congratulate the William Morris Gallery on a thoroughly deserved win."

What impressed the judges above all was the ongoing commitment to re-establish the museum in the town and the essential role played by volunteers in supporting the museum.

The fundraising is still needed.

Chairman of trustees, Henry Langen, recently presented a cheque for £501, the proceeds of a very successful event he had organised at the Plas Hyfryd Hotel.

Acclaimed actor, Josh Richards, reprised his role in the award-winning one-actor play Playing Burton. The evening was an outstanding success - and few will forget the emotional impact of his masterly performance.

The museum is still looking to recruit more voulnteers in a variety of roles, including trustees.
