A 54-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Angelika Dries-Jenkins, whose body was found at her home in Narberth.
John William Mason, from Pembrokeshire, was remanded in custody at Llanelli Magistrates Court and the case referred to Swansea Crown Court.
Ms Dries-Jenkins's body was discovered on Friday, June 3, two days before what would have been her 67th birthday.
A post-mortem examination confirmed that she had died from 'substantial' head injuries.
Officers leading the case have praised the resilience of people living in Pembrokeshire during the unprecedented number of incidents that have occurred in such a short space of time.
Detective Superintendent Pam Kelly said: "Dyfed-Powys Police would like to thank the communities of Pembrokeshire for their support and in particular, the information they have provided to assist the investigation.
"The level of support we have received from people living in and around Narberth has been remarkable.
"Clearly our condolences and offers of support are very much with Angelika's family at this time."
Superintendent Reg Bevan added: "This murder has caused a great deal of shock and concern across the county and everyone is relieved to get to this stage of the investigation so swiftly, which has been through tremendous support from the local community.
"It's been a particularly difficult time over the last week with the tragic deaths at Chevron and then the dreadful murder of a retired lady, who was killed in her home. We have had an unprecedented demand on police and partner agencies and emergency services during this period, and collaboratively, we believe we have met these challenges with professionalism and empathy."
During the investigation, neighbourhood police teams and special constables patrolled the communities in and around Narberth speaking to residents who had concerns, worries or information about the incident.
