BURRY PORT U13s 10 pts

NARBERTH U13s 5

Playing away from home, the Narberth Under 13s rugby team put up a brave display in losing narrowly to a strong Burry Port side on Sunday.

Despite facing a strong wind and driving rain in the first half, Narberth dominated territorially and were getting the better of their bigger opponents up front.

They moved the wet ball at every opportunity and it was not long before this paid off when outside centre, Rory Bennett, broke through for an unconverted try.

The visitors came close to scoring on a couple of other occasions but were let down by handling errors in the difficult conditions.

At half time, they turned around feeling confident that, with the wind and rain in their favour, more scores would come their way.

Burry Port had other ideas and, with their stronger pack improving as the game progressed, they soon found themselves applying pressure in the Narberth half of the field.

A scrum near the Narberth line resulted in handling errors which put the home side in for their first try.

This was shortly followed by a second try as the powerful Burry Port forwards drove through from a line out.

In deteriorating conditions, the home pack asserted their superiority for much of the second half. For the final few minutes, though, the Narberth youngsters put in a major last effort and came close to crossing their opponent's line.

The Narberth team was:

Daniel Higginson, William Roberts, Jamie Lewis, Daniel Adams, Paul Brown, Ben Davies, Rian Whatmore, Rory Bennett, Rhodri James, Nick Jones, Gethin Salter, Sam Webster-Smith, Gareth Jones, Luke Davies, Sam Mcnaghton.
