Played as a curtain-raiser to the Narberth verus Whitland senior match on Wednesday evening, this game proved to be the more exciting of the two, with the youngsters displaying excellent handling and running skills.

From the kick-off, both sides showed an eagerness to move the ball at every opportunity and a pattern of end-to-end 15-man rugby soon emerged.

It was the home youngsters though who were the first to break the deadlock when, following a tapped penalty, the forwards made inroads into the opposition defence, before off-loading to the backs who moved the ball wide for Gethin Salter to race over.

From the restart, Narberth were awarded a penalty and carried the play back into the Tenby 22. It was not long before their backs again moved the ball along the line for Gethin Salter to run in from full back to cross in the corner for try number two.

Tenby hit back quickly when, after a period of pressure close to the Narberth line, fly-half Ollie Morgan crossed under the posts for a converted try. Both sides then threatened with good flowing rugby, but it was Narberth who managed another score before half-time, when centre Sammy Hampson ran in from 30 meters out.

Narberth's 10 point half-time lead was soon overtaken at the start of the second-half, as both Daniel Colley and Robbie Tuttle made impressive runs that resulted in two quick tries for the visitors.

It looked as though the floodgates were about to open for Tenby, but Narberth fought back bravely with a determined effort by the pack and slick handling by the backs. This resulted in Narberth's full-back forcing his way over for another try that was converted by Rhodri James to bring the scores level at 24 points each.

With a draw looking the likely outcome between these evenly matched sides, the game moved into injury time.

Narberth, though, saved their best for last with a passage of good handling and driving play that culminated in the ball being moved quickly along the backs for Gethin Salter to squeeze over in the corner in almost the final move of the match.

Narberth fielded: Luke Davies, Paul Brown, Daniel Adams, Gareth Jones, Aled John, Adam Lewis, Ben Davies, Nick Jones, Richard Sharpe, Sam Macnaghton, Rhodri James, Sammy Hampson, Rory Bennett, Daniel Higginson, Tom Parsells, Gethin Salter and Daniel Birch.
