About 10 years ago an appeal was made to help purchase extra Christmas lights for Narberth and the town has since been one of the best illuminated in Pembrokeshire.

The Town Council spends a great deal on erecting and dismantling the lights and replacing bulbs every year. Last year they had trouble with some of the pole displays and because of the cost of the council is unlikely to replace them, which will mean large unlit spaces.

The Christmas lighting sub-committee met recently and agreed to try to raise money to replace the faulty ones and so maintain the high standard of festive lighting which is enjoyed by the people of all ages and helps bring in visitors form a large area.

The lights will be switched on, on November 28, ready for the annual winter carnival, which will take place on November 30.

"I would appeal to anyone who would like to make a small donation, "said the Mayor Clr. Eric Feetham. "You will be able to look up with pride and say 'I helped to pay for some of these'."

Any donations can be sent to the Mayor's Christmas Lighting Appeal, 29 Springfield Park, Narberth.
