The following subjects were discussed during the August meeting of Narberth Chamber of Trade: Narberth Vision 2010: The chamber was supporting this Planed initiated project in collaboration with the town council. The chamber was represented at the steering policy group meeting by John Williams and Gordon Barry. A public meeting was held on the April 16 to consider the draft report. Further changes were made in the May report and a steering group meeting was held on May 31. An initial meeting of the new Narberth Forum was held on June 19. The final version has now been published with its detailed Action Plan and will be considered by the steering committee and Narberth Forum. Any interested members are asked to please contact your representatives as there is considerable responsibility for implementing the recommendations by the chamber. Further to this a special meeting has been called for Thursday, September 6, at 7.30 pm, at Bloomfield. Christmas shopping - Sunday 0pening banner: It is proposed that a banner be erected to advertise Christmas Sunday and late night opening. All traders are asked to indicate to the secretary if and when they will participate please. School playground car parking: Parking signs were obtained for the playground entrance by the chamber. Unfortunately, one has been vandalised and has now been replaced. This brings back the additional parking benefit of the playground to the town during school holidays. It was negotiated by the chamber who extend their thanks to the school head, Mrs. Davies, for her support and co- operation in allowing the parking to take place. Cruising to Wales (Peter Deilmann's Deutschland): It is understood that the cruise ship Deutschland will be docking at Milford Haven on September 11. A number of coaches will be arriving in Narberth at 10 am on the 12th to sample the delights of the town. Businesses are asked to be ready to welcome them please. Civic Week 2007 bunting: The chamber had arranged for the bunting to be erected and taken down. Additional bunting had been obtained. The bunting would be removed after the Narberth Food Festival. Grass track: Thankfully, the weather was good and a very successful meeting was held on August 7, following the postponement of the event during Civic Week. Providing all the promised sponsorship money is collected, the Civic Week committee should receive a total sum of almost £1,900 from the organising Narberth chamber. Antiques and Collectables Fair: Again this year, it was down to the chamber to organise and arrange. A reasonably successful event was held, with more stallholders present than last year. Silly string: A letter was received from Civic Week committee stating that, although all traders were contacted and requested not to sell silly string, the carnival was once more blighted by the unthinking use of this substance; in the majority of cases supplied by Narberth shops. Silly string has stopped the use of classic cars to transport the celebrities in the parade. It has even stopped the celebrities from taking part. Bands are unwilling to come to Narberth carnival as the silly string damages their instruments. Other carnivals in the county do not allow silly string. The chamber is very supportive of the proposed by-law which will outlaw silly string from Narberth carnival days.
