January and February are the months when many of us try to get into good physical shape for the new year ahead. We join slimming clubs, renew our ticket to the gym and watch the calories. So much effort is put into disciplining our bodies, but not so much into disciplining our minds. Take for example the issue of fear. If there is one thing that can undermine our self- confidence, upset our sleep or seek to control us, it is fear. Fear has many faces. It can come in the guise of fretting over decisions, worrying about our families or cosmic fear. Some are fearful of a cosmos that is globally warming or seeing nuclear/ biological weapons in the hands of aggressive nations. Worry can escalate into fear and fear can escalate into terror or morbid foreboding. Now is the time to nip fear in the bud and do something about it. But how do we tackle such a powerful enemy? The Christian weapon against fear is Love. If we were to love God with all our heart and our neighbour as ourself, fear would be expelled. Loving our neighbour would mean genuine support for each other. To love is to trust, and God's love for us means we can trust our times are in His hand. NBF meet 6.30 pm Sundays in the chapel at Pant-y- Gorphwys Farmhouse on the A478 from Penblewin to Narberth - all welcome.
