Pembrokeshire has long been proud of its historic and musical heritage. Next Saturday, October 6, the two will once again combine, when St. David's Cathedral is the venue for a special musical treat. Cor Dewi Sant, with its musical director, John S. Davies, are delighted to be raising their voices on World Palliative Care Day, in aid of Shalom House, St. Davids. The choir was originally set up by Mr. Davies, specifically for a televised performance from the cathedral of Arwel Hughes's Dewi Sant. Its many other performances have included appearances on S4C, and in London, Cardiff's Millennium Centre, and the Fishguard Music Festival, of which John S. Davies was founder and, until recently, artistic director. For his services to the festival, Mr. Davies was made an MBE in 1997, one of several awards received for his work in music. Two other talented musicians, who will accompany the choir at the concert, will be Alexander Mason, organist and master of the choristers at the cathedral, recipient of several awards, and pianist Caradog Williams, who is one of the choir's regular accompanists. The proceeds of the concert will go towards Shalom House - the first palliative care respite/day care centre in Pembrokeshire - which will be officially opened in November. The concert starts at 7.30 pm, with tickets (£10 and £7, with children under 12 free) available at the door and St. Davids Bookshop, The Pebbles, St. Davids.
