Last Wednesday during an awards ceremony at the Royal College of Music in London, local music teacher Helen Standing, from Pentlepoir, received The Certificate of Teaching, Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. Helen is one of the youngest teachers able to attain this international qualification for the Professional Development of established music teachers. She began teaching the piano and keyboard three years ago and was soon also in demand as a teacher of drum kit, clarinet, violin, guitar and bass guitar.
Earlier in the year Helen organised the first Notes for Notes Annual Charity Concert performed by her pupils together with local singers and musicians.
As a third year Undergraduate with the Open University, Helen is also studying for a Diploma in Music and a BA in Music and Humanities.
In her spare time Helen plays the drums with the Tenby and District Brass Band and assists with the music for services in several churches and chapels in the county. She has also composed a number of pieces of music and songs and hopes to produce a CD when her studies are completed.
In the Autumn Helen will also start working as a peripatetic music teacher.
The following pupils are to be congratulated on their success in the recent ABRSM examinations:
Hattie D'Ortez - Grade 1 violin.
Elina Ciccotti - Grade 1 Clarinet with merit.
Steffan Ciccotti - Grade 6 Theory with merit.
