Staff and volunteers at Narberth Museum were saddened to hear of the recent death of Colonel Richard Gilbertson.
He and other members of the Narberth Society were prime movers in the establishment of the Wilson Museum of Narberth which opened in 1989.
From the beginning, Richard was involved in every aspect of the museum's activities, serving on the management committee, applying for grants, and notably, building all the display cabinets that gave the museum a distinctive and professional look.
Throughout this period, when the museum was housed in Market Square, Richard continued to contribute hours of his time to ensuring that the museum grew and prospered.
When that museum closed, he became an enthusiastic member of the team that planned and oversaw the restoration of the Bonded Stores and the re-establishment of the new Narberth Museum there.
It was heartening that, despite failing health, he was able to attend the opening in July 2012.
His contribution to the development of a museum in Narberth has been incalculable and he devoted much of his time to ensuring that the museum went from strength to strength. It is by building on his legacy that the museum can best acknowledge his achievement.
