THE present Honorary Curator of the Tenby Museum and Art Gallery is Mr. John Beynon, who volunteered his services in 1995.
With an academic background, lecturing in the Arts and Social History at UWIC, he was well suited to continue the tradition of curators with appropriate interests, enthusiasm and local knowledge.
During recent times he has overseen the development and modernisation of a comprehensive reference system for the vast quantity of natural and social history artefacts, which have been donated and acquired over the years.
As a result, this small Welsh museum is establishing a growing reputation among researchers in many fields, as a rich and accessible source of information about the local area and Pembrokeshire.
John's network of contacts in the art world has resulted in a dynamic approach to the displays of the many pictures owned by the museum and an exciting series of exhibitions, not only of great artists of the past, but also of an impressive number of important living Welsh artists.
It can truly be claimed that, because of the efforts of its staff and many volunteers, the Tenby Museum and Art Gallery is one of the main tourist attractions in the town.
Unfortunately, John will retire in 2005. The trustees of the museum are now faced with the daunting task of finding someone with the right qualifications, motivation and love of Tenby to replace him.
In the past, someone has always come to the rescue, so is there a philanthropist left who is prepared to accept the challenge, on a full or part-time basis, for the good of the community?
2005 is not too far away and the trustees need to plan ahead, so if anyone is interested they should write to David Hughes at the Tenby Museum and Art Gallery before the end of August this year.
