World Book Day. What does it mean? World Book Day, on Thursday, March 6, is a celebration of books, authors, reading, and research. Whether you read aloud to your children, bury yourself in an exciting novel, research historic facts or just enjoy looking at the pictures, all over the world people will be enjoying this special day with a book. Sometimes it is difficult to access really interesting or rare books, but that is where Tenby Museum and Art Gallery can help. For one day only, the public will have supervised access to this wonderful collection of books, without an appointment. There's a huge variety of subjects from which to choose, from art, history, geology, natural history and science to beautifully produced volumes of Charles Norris's Etchings of Tenby or the extremely rare Robert Recorde books on mathematics. Maybe you would like to peruse a volume of 'Culpepper's Herbal' with beautifully hand-coloured illustrations and ancient cures, or check out Speed's History of Britain printed in 1623. Whatever your choice, staff will be on hand to help and assist. As part of the celebrations, a local infant school will be enjoying a reading from one of Beatrix Potter's delightful stories and any other visiting children are welcome to join in. The day begins at 10 am and continues until 4 pm with a break for lunch at 12.30-1.30, so come along and enjoy a good read. You never know what will inspire you or what treasures you will discover.
