Local MP Simon Hart is urging everyone who can, to give generously to a Syrian charity at the end of Tenby’s carol service this Sunday (December 18).
Tenby rector Andrew Grace has agreed that the retiring collection after the traditional Nine Lessons and Carols at St. Mary’s in the town centre on Sunday will go to ‘Singing for Syrians.’
The small charity is part of the Hands Up Foundation which has been sending money to Aleppo for the past two years to pay the salaries of medics who remained in Syria. It works with partners in the country to identify and support small projects that will have the maximum impact for those in need.
“My nephew is one of the founders of the charity and where possible the charity’s work is done inside Syria and run by Syrians,” explained Mr. Hart.
“They have been paying salaries of seven medics working in Aleppo but the hospitals in the cities have now been destroyed. However, they continue to support prosthetic charities that work in both Syria and on the Turkish border.
“It will be a beautiful carol service at St. Mary’s and I am sure that Pembrokeshire’s residents will be as generous as possible.”
• The St. Mary’s Church Nine Lessons and Carols starts at 5 pm on Sunday, December 18.
