The results of one of the largest surveys of its kind carried out in Pembrokeshire has thrown up some interesting findings, says local MP Simon Hart.

Mr. Hart sent a survey to all 35,000 households in his constituency to discover people's views on important local topics and received almost 4,000 responses.

"This was an excellent way to find out what people are really thinking in our area and I was surprised by some of the results," said Mr. Hart.

To my surprise, 66 per cent of people felt that mobile 'phone coverage was either good or adequate in Pembrokeshire, as anecdotal evidence tends to point the other way.

"I think this is quite encouraging as it was something I used to have a lot of complaints about, but then perhaps this is down as much to improvement in handsets as to the signal quality," said Mr. Hart.

Less surprising was the fact that 53 per cent of people believe that their broadband coverage is poor.

"I am continuing to lobby for faster roll out of superfast broadband in Pembrokeshire as this is something that is stifling small businesses and the local economy," he added. Poor broadband tends to be one of those things we simply put up with, until we realise how much better it can really be.

Staff at Withybush Hospital also got the thumbs up, with 73 per cent of people saying that the service they provided was 'good' or 'adequate'.

Finally, Mr. Hart was surprised by attitudes to wind farms being more evenly split than anticipated, with 49 per cent of people opposing them being built in their county, with 43 per cent in support.

"While this hasn't been a scientific exercise, it's been very worthwhile and the number of responses I received show that people are keen to share their views," said Mr. Hart.
