Local MP Nick Ainger has told Tenby Town Council that his position on the proposed dredging of Nobel Banks is one of opposition.
In a letter to them on Tuesday night, he stated that the most important issue now was to ensure that there was a comprehensive environmental impact assessment, which would include both the south Pembrokeshire and south Carmarthenshire coastlines.
Fears are that dredging at the site would deprive many forms of wildlife of a food source and hence, would have a detrimental effect on the marine food chain.
Mr. Ainger's attention was drawn to the matter after receiving a letter of concern from Brother Francis Cooney, of Caldey Island.
A licence was being sought to dredge the banks to re-locate sand to other locations across the country, but fears are that the sand taken away may not be replenished naturally by the tides.
Town council members are to await a full environmental assessment before making a decision on the matter.
