THE De Valence, Tenby, is pleased to announce Fluellen Theatre Company's next presentation, a new production of a masterpiece of 20th century theatre, Mother Courage and Her Children, on Wednesday, March 14, at 7.30 pm. Written by Bertolt Brecht at the outbreak of the Second World War, but set in another war - the Thirty Years War - it tells the story of Anna Frieling (Mother Courage) and her three children. She is a canteen woman selling provisions to whoever wants to buy. Her object in life for her and her children is just to survive the nightmare of the war and prosper from it, and she will do anything to accomplish that, even if it means changing sides. At the end of a century that was ravaged by war on an unprecendented scale, Bertolt Brecht's great drama of silence and survival seems only to have grown in stature since its first performance. Indeed, The Guardian recently named it "probably the greatest play of the 20th century". Using the translation by David Hare, and with music specially composed by Delyth Jenkins, Fluellen's production stars award-winning actress Claire Novelli as Mother Courage. She heads an outstanding cast that includes George Andrews, Rhodri Lewis, Jack Llewellyn, Huw Richards, Charlotte Rogers and Bethan Thomas. Workshops on the production are available for schools and colleges. Don't miss this rare chance to see this outstanding play, a play that brilliantly weaves lyrical music and wry comedy into its serious and harrowing subject matter. "Without a good war, where do you get your moral standards from? Everything goes to pot in peacetime." Tickets £8 (concessions £6). Doors open 7 pm, show commences 7.30 pm.
