Tenby's Mayor feels that further signage should be introduced at the entrance to the town to prevent motorists unfamiliar with area from mistakenly travelling into Tudor Square. Clr. John Griffiths's comments came after councillors discussed a letter at a meeting of the town council on Tuesday night from Mr. Roy Lawrence, of Heywood Lane, who felt that two large signs should be erected at White Lion Corner for drivers approaching the mini-roundabout. The first sign would be for drivers travelling towards High Street, indicating that they should turn right for the multi-storey car park, while the second should be for drivers in White Lion Street, informing them to turn left for the Butts Field car park. "The majority of visiting drivers within the town walls appear to be drifting around looking for some indication of where to park," said Mr. Lawrence. "I am convinced that they end up in Tudor Square because they have missed the Butts Field car park sign on Doctors' Corner." Mayor, Clr. Griffiths felt that a better way would be to put up a sign reading 'No through road', as this would stop caravan drivers and the like from encountering problems in the town centre. "The problem is that something like a Sat Nav system wouldn't recognise such a problem and inform drivers to travel through. Most caravan drivers not familiar with the town would think that they could enter Tudor Square and get through the other side; they don't realise that it is virtually a dead end for them," commented Clr. Griffiths. However, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane didn't agree with erecting more signage. "I don't think further signage is the answer; we don't want to deter people from coming into the town and too many signs can cause that effect," she said. "I'm down in Tudor Square all week and a caravan driver entering the centre is something that rarely happens; it's not a major problem." The town clerk informed members that the issue of signage in Tenby was currently under review in light of the enhancement works and also the summer pedestrianisation scheme.
