While most staff in the county were enjoying the last day of the half-term holiday, staff and friends of Tenby's St. Teilo's School embarked on their 'More than a Marathon' cycle challenge.

The challenge was to raise money for the Friends of St. Teilo's 'Play for Life' project.

Setting off from the town's North Beach car park, Lloyd Goforth expertly led the way. Mark Winter and Ben Blake acted as sweepers for the 15-strong group of teachers, support staff and friends.

The route took the group to Devonshire Drive and on to Redberth, with a much-needed first stop in Carew.

Then it was the 'hilly' part - West Williamston, Cresswell Quay, Yerbeston, Loveston and the long climb to Jeffreyston, where, thanks to Kathy and her staff, the group stopped for a well-deserved lunch at the Jeffreyston Inn.

At this point, several riders would have happily retired, but determination and extra Jelly Babies helped everyone to saddle up for the final stage.

Homeward bound via Redberth, St. Florence, Trefloyne Lane back to Tenby where Paula and the staff at the Evergreen provided much-needed refreshments and a very welcome buffet was kindly provided by Denise and Claire.

Acting head teacher Mrs. Nichols said: "It was a tough challenge - tougher for some of us than for others, but what a fantastic way of raising much-needed funds for the school while doing something healthy and fun.

"It is great to see the staff coming together to do their bit for the Play for Life project. I am very proud of everyone who took part and would like to thank all those people who have supported this challenge."

Thank you goes to Mrs. Blackledge and Mr. Harley, who did a wonderful job in the support vehicles, patiently following the group with the supplies!

Thank you also goes to Kathy and the staff at the Jeffreyston Inn and Paula and the staff at the Evergreen for allowing all in to recover!

And a huge thank you to the pupils and parents who cheered everyone along the way, and finally everyone who has kindly sponsored the challenge. A final figure is yet to be totalled, but looks set to be in the region of £1,000.

It's not too late to sponsor the St. Teilo's 'More than a Marathon' cycle challenge', so please send your donation to St. Teilo's School.
