With its roots in Pagan times when the ghosts of the dead were able to mingle with the living, Hallowe’en is emerging once again as an adult holiday or masquerade and not just an opportunity for children to get dressed up and have some fun.

The opportunity to get into every type of costume imaginable and re-enact customs with a lengthy pedigree where all manner of supernatural beings were thought to be about has been embraced whole-heartedly by Picton Castle, a grand medieval castle on the outskirts of Haverfordwest, who have successfully managed for the past few years to offer good old fashioned family entertainment during the day, combined with a more spooky encounter during the twilight hours for grown ups.

This year, Hallowe’en falls conveniently during the half-term holiday, so what could be better to head on down to the castle, where, it is heard, monsters lurk in the 40 acre gardens, and there are Hallowe’en craft workshops and spooky tours with a magical twist. No sacrificing of animals, or offerings of fruits and vegetables to the spirits, just lots of glue, sparkle and family fun - with of course, the opportunity to dress up!

As dusk falls, it’s time for the grown-ups to come out of hiding and join renowned psychic and spirit medium, Dr. Caspian Mercado who awaits your company within the walls of this medieval bastion of mystery and intrigue. As a chill descends, Dr. Mercado invites you to take a seat around the table and makes contact with the unquiet spirits which haunt this ancient building and join him for a spooky and spine-chilling experience as you explore further into the depths…

Picton’s freaky fun days offer an interactive and immersive Hallowe’en entertainment for all the family and are being held at Picton Castle and Gardens near Haverfordwest and continue today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday) from 10 am until 5 pm, with activities commencing at 11 am and the last tour at 4 pm.
