Playing in the HSBC Tom Yeomans Welsh Schools Competition, Pembrokeshire Schools under 11s made the trip to Aberdare on Sunday. There they took part in four highly competitive matches against  Rhondda Cynon Taff from which they gained points for two draws. A lack of composure in front of goal by both A and B teams,  meant that several good attacking moves failed to build on  midfield play, which was at least as good as their opponents, leaving themselves open to the counter-attack.    RCT A 2 Pembrokeshire B 0   Pembs. came under heavy early pressure, defending desperately until they began to build up some good moves of  their own, with Ryan Harley Davies very dangerous in attack. Debutant  George Wilkins hit the crossbar after a good Pembs. move, but despite this RCT's confidence grew as the scores remained level. Their mid-second half pressure produced two good goals which decided the match. Nathan Wilson was superb in defence and Mark Boswell and Marcus Blair had good debuts.                                                                                                              RCT B 0 Pembrokeshire A 0   Pembrokeshire looked sluggish for the first 10 minutes before they got into the game. Jerome Mansbridge covered a lot of ground and with Jake Seaton, created several scoring chances. Shaun Whitfield made his debut in centre midfield and Richard Tebbutt was once again solid in defence. Lewis Roberts kept a clean sheet in goal and Pembs held out for the draw.   RCT A 2 Pembrokeshire A 1   RCT scored against the run of play after Rhys Jenkins went close at the other end. Jacob Dent and Robert Davies tackled well, before RCT overran them and  went 2-0 ahead. Tommy John scored for Pembs with a long-range shot and almost got the equaliser after Declan Escott set him up again. His shot hit the crossbar before rebounding into play. Pembs battled up to the final whistle and were unlucky not to earn a point for their efforts.   RCT B 2 Pembrokeshire B 2   Pembs. conceded an early goal, but fought back well to get level. After falling behind again,  Pembs. played their best football of the day, both to get level through Laurie Howarth and produce a rousing finish. Niall Kinsella had several long-range shots that went close and Curtis Rigden and Jac Evans tackled strongly.     Apart from bringing a good save in the Pembs. goal by Ashley Farmer from one counter-attack, RCT were relieved to hold on for a draw.
