A design for a project that would see a ‘Gorsedd’ style stone circle placed in the middle of Tenby’s Battery Gardens has been met with a mixed reaction by local councillors.

Members of Tenby town council were shown a ‘photomontage’ proposal of the project, which has been touted as costing £20,000, at their meeting on Wednesday night, with correspondence coming from Pembrokeshire County Council landscape architect Dai Rees.

“Although it is a project for the ‘regeneration team’, I thought I’d bring the design proposals to the town council chambers first, as it is likely that we will be expected to part fund the project,” explained the town clerk Mr. Andrew Davies.

Clr. Will Rossiter told his fellow members that he was unsure about the design as he felt it looked like a similar ‘circle’ that had been placed in Haverfordwest, which he described as looking “very sad” and even suggested that an ‘open air lido’ might be more suitable for the area.

“Personally, I don’t like it either,” agreed Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown. “You may as well be allowed to let your dogs in there again!” she added.

Mr. Davies reminded councillors that this was a project that had been proposed a couple of years ago and that it had taken this long for someone to come up with a concept drawing.

Councillors agreed to defer the item until the next meeting, as Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, was not present, and they felt that she would want to have her say on the proposals.
