The Mayor of Tenby is unsure whether locals are in favour of a return of the town's landmark Dyster Memorial Fountain to Tudor Square. The fountain is currently in the process of being restored, but a position for it to be located has yet to be decided upon. "I've spoken to a number of people in the town and have not found anyone enthusiastic about the fountain returning to the centre of Tenby," said Mayor, Clr. John Griffiths, at Wednesday's meeting of the town council. "I've suggested in recent weeks that the landmark could be incorporated into works taking place at The Green, but we would have to decide now whether that would be a suitable place." Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter felt that it would be best to see the plans for the development of the town centre before making any decision, while her colleague, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown, commented that should the town be permanently pedestrianised in the future, then Tudor Square would be the ideal location for the fountain. Clr. Trevor Hallett disagreed with this notion, though, stating that it could be dangerous to put the fountain back in the centre if traffic was to be continued to be allowed through the town. "We really can't look into finalising where the Dyster goes for sometime; all we have agreed to do at the moment is to support having it restored," remarked Clr. Mike Evans.
