This was one of those frustrating games for Tenby United where they made most of the running, but still had to return home at the wrong end of a 14-10 scoreline against Gorseinon in National League division four (west) on Saturday.
With their more wiry and mobile pack, the Seasiders had the bulkier Gorseinon eight under the cosh in all facets, but were unable to turn their pressure into points.
Spilled passes, unforced errors and wrong options all conspired against the United, while the homesters not only bagged two converted tries, but they also mounted a credit worthy defence to hold onto their advantage and take the spoils.
Although the Seasiders scored two tries through prop Scott Payne and new lock, Australian Ben Armstrong, both went unconverted by outside-half Neil Powling, who also missed five penalties to add to the Seasiders' woes.
Although the result makes it a 50 per cent success rate so far in the league for the United, they have won both home fixtures to date.
No doubt they will be hoping to maintain that record, and return to winning ways tomorrow (Saturday), although they face a stern test as it will be league leaders Bryncoch who will be visiting Heywood Lane.
However, the Seasiders will be bolstered by the news that former United prop Dai Balkwill and scrum-half Steve Williams have rejoined the club and that negotiations are proceeding well towards adding strength in depth through another front row forward and an experienced utility back and goal-kicker.
There is also further good news in that Paul Luger, Darren Rees and Paul Broaders are all back to fitness after injury and all will be available for selection this weekend.
