Edwina Hart, Minister for Business, Enterprise, Technology and Science, made an official visit to Tenby Museum and Art Gallery last week. Mrs. Hart had accepted an invitation by the museum's honorary curator, Neil Westerman, to visit the museum and see for herself the best museum in Pembrokeshire. Edwina enjoyed a guided tour of the museum by the curator. She was particularly impressed with the museum's fine archaeological collection. Edwina Hart is the Assembly Member for Gower where she was born and raised. She worked in the banking sector where she became active in the trade union movement and was elected as the first female president of banking union BIFU. First elected to the Welsh Assembly in 1999, she was appointed to the post of Finance Secretary. In 2000, this was changed to include responsibility for local government and she became Minister for Finance and Local Government. In 2003, she took on the newly created Social Justice portfolio and became the Assembly's first Social Justice and Regeneration Minister. In 2007, she became the Minister for Health and Social Services and in 2011 she was appointed to her current role as Minister for Business, Enterprise, Technology and Science. During Edwina's visit, Neil was able to raise serious concerns the museum has about the promotion of tourism in Pembrokeshire outside of the county. The tourism sector is the largest employer in Pembrokeshire and is vital to the well-being of the county. Edwina agreed and gave a commitment to look at the current situation. Neil thanked Edwina for finding time in her busy ministerial role to visit the museum.
