Renowned Welsh poet Mererid Hopwood has been bringing poetry alive in classrooms across Pembrokeshire in an innovative new project.

Working with Mererid, pupils from 10 different schools have created a series of poems which have formed the basis of an interactive teaching CD entitled 'One Day'.

The attractive and colourful CD will be used as teaching resource in Pembrokeshire schools with the aim of encouraging the development of language skills.

Five schools worked through the medium of Welsh, while the other five worked in English, resulting in a bilingual resource suitable for all schools.

'One Day' also features illustrations by Pembrokeshire-based artist James Campbell, whose work was inspired by the children's poetry.

The launch of the CD took place at County Hall in Haverfordwest on Wednesday.

The event included a presentation by Mererid Hopwood and pupils from local schools, and an exhibition by James Campbell.

• 'One Day' is a joint venture between Pembrokeshire County Council and Artswave.
