Whitchurch D 0 Pembroke County 0

After last week's cancelled home game, Pembroke County travelled to Whitcurch D for their next match in South Wales Division One of the Davies Wood Hockey League, with captain Mark Brimbacombe returning in a 14-man squad.

County started the game with a push back and put immediate pressure on Whitchurch. However, solid defence and a very impressive young 'keeper stopped them from going ahead. County gained numerous short corners, but failure to convert these opportunities and fast closing down by Whitchurch kept it at 0-0 at half-time.

After a mundane first half, County increased their passing game, moving the ball through the wide channels, with Scott Lewis, Nicholas Brookes and Danny Pryke receiving more of the ball.

Eventually, Paul Tough was able to shoot on goal with what looked like a certain score, until the umpires judged the ball to have gone through the side netting.

Darren Cole went close as well, hitting the post, but again luck seemed to have deserted County.

Towards the end of the game, County applied more pressure, with Paul Thomas advancing up the pitch from defence. The pressure applied in Whitchurch's half provided the home team with breakaway opportunities, but goalkeeper Andy Major was able to make crucial one-on-one saves that saved County from defeat.

Team: Mark Brimbacombe (capt.), Danny Pryke, Andrew Major (GK), Nicholas Brookes, Paul Jewell, Sam Young, Paul Thomas, Paul Tough, Darren Cole, Scott Lewis, Gavin Bernard, Dylan Williams, Jack Pinson, Ed Clements.
