Members of the public were able to take advantage of a rarer opportunity on Sunday to see the ins and outs of Tenby lifeboat station as the RNLI?held its annual ‘Open Day’ event in the resort.
Visitors were able to embark on a tour the station and chat to members of the crew, and also take the opportunity to have a tours around the boat and see all of the kit and technology the crew use out on rescues.
At 5 pm the lifeboat was launched down the slipway to perform a short display and demonstration before giving visitors - with hundreds gathered at viewing points in and around the station, and up on Castle Hill - a chance to see the boat being recovered.
Local photographer Gareth Davies was out and about to capture some of the action, even getting ob board the Haydn Miller lifeboat itself at one point to capture a shot of the Inshore Lifeboat on the water.
The lifeboat station’s souvenir shop was also open, selling a range of RNLI goodies, and the popular ‘History of Tenby Lifeboats’ book.
“The day went really well and was one of our busiest ever, with a steady stream of visitors from the time we opened at 10 am, until our launch at 5 pm,” said Tenby Lifeboat crew member Ben James.
“The day culminated in a rescue display by both lifeboats and then a procession of lifeboats both old and modern, some locally owned (by current Tenby lifeboat crew) and some visiting just for our open day,” he added.
