Four young musicians from the Tenby area have won medals at a prestigious music event.

At the Swansea Festival of Music for Young Musicians, Sabrina Morgan, aged eight, from St. Teilo's School, won a gold medal in the 12 years and under contemporary music class. She also won a gold medal in the grade three piano class and a silver medal in the 'own choice' piano piece for 12-year-olds and under.

Emma Spence, aged nine, from Saundersfoot Primary School, won a gold medal in the grade two piano class, together with the gold medal in the grade one class.

Talis Spence, who is 13 and from Greenhill School, Tenby, won a gold medal in the 14 years and under 'own choice' class. She also took a silver medal in the Senior Piano Recital competition, and a silver medal in the 16 years and under class.

Sixteen-year-old Dominic Ciccotti from Ysgol Preseli won a silver medal in the senior piano recital, and also a silver medal in the 16 years and under class.

All four pianists are pupils of Jan Hartzell, of Saundersfoot.

Nigel Clayton was the main adjudicator for piano. As a soloist, he's performed concertos by Beethoven, Shostakovich, Ravel, Rachmaninov, Mozart and Liszt and played Poulenc's two piano concertos in the Royal Albert Hall.

He teaches at the Royal College of Music, and at a specialist schools for pianists.
