The Mayor of Tenby has given her praise to the organisers of the Long Course Triathlon Weekend which took place in and around the town recently.
At Tuesday night's meeting of the town council, Clr. Mrs. Julie Evans offered her congratulations to Activity Wales on a "spectacular event" that drew hundreds of competitors and their supporters to the area.
"The whole team worked tirelessly throughout the weekend and fortunately the weather was kind and the competitors I spoke to were very complimentary about the the event and the venue," she said.
"I would particularly like to congratulate Oliver Simon, a local lifeguard, for gaining first place in the overall competition, and all the competitors who completed the long course; there were some awesome performances," added Clr. Mrs. Evans.
The Mayor was also recently invited to the launch of the Iron Man Wales Triathlon which would be taking place in Tenby in September, 2011.
"To have attracted the Iron Man event to Tenby and Wales is an outstanding achievement, as it's a world class event that will have over 2,000 entries and allow for 50 competitors to qualify for the World Iron Man final in Hawaii.
"Iron Man Wales is less than a year away and I would urge local businesses to engage with the organising committee to start planning for the event.
"It will bring a much-needed end of season boost to the local economy and it is our opportunity to put Tenby and Pembrokeshire on the world map as a sporting destination," said the Mayor.
