A charity concert organised by the Mayor of Pembroke, Clr. Dennis Evans, was held in the Town Hall, Pembroke, in aid of the Wales Air Ambulance charity.

A capacity audience were treated to a thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable evening by two choirs, Roch Choir and a local choir ‘Sing for Joy’, and they were ably supported by Mirelle Ryan, a very talented local soprano.

Roch Choir, under the conductor Susan Brown, sang many favourites, which included ‘O what a beautiful morning’ and ‘Sunrise sunset’.

The audience joined in with songs from the Sound of Music and a very lively version of ‘Consider yourself’.

The ladies choir ‘Sing for Joy’, led by Sue Blick, showed their versatility by singing ‘The Lord is my Shepherd’, before entertaining the audience with their very own version of ‘The Sound of Silence’, among other songs.

Sue and Mary sang a very light-hearted duet named ‘Rio Rumba’, which caused great amusement with the audience.

Mirelle gave a truly polished performance with a beautiful rendition of Ombra Mai Fu, before closing with a favourite of hers, ‘Lovely Lonely Man’, and she thoroughly deserved the enthusiastic round of applause.

Tony Key OBE, the Pembrokeshire fund-raiser for the charity, thanked the Mayor for organising the concert.

He also thanked both choirs for their efforts and suggested that Mirelle was one of the best soprano artists that he had heard for a very long time.

Clr. Evans thanked everyone for supporting such a worthwhile charity and, along with the Mayoress, presented bouquets to the two pianists, Margaret Howells and Anne Evans, soloist Mirelle and the two conductors, Susan Brown and Sue Blick.

With donations, raffle and ticket money, a grand total of £622 was raised for the Wales Air Ambulance charity.
