THE Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Julie Evans, was honoured to be invited to Caldey Island last week by the Abbot, Father Daniel.

Together with her consort, Gareth Evans, they enjoyed refreshments with the Abbot and brothers of the community. They discussed the long relationship between the monastery and the town of Tenby.

The Mayor was very interested to hear about their life on the island and indeed their diverse backgrounds.

The Mayor presented the brothers with a hamper of fruit and in return she was given a copy of the recently published Caldey Island book by Christopher Howells.

Father Daniel said that, without doubt, the visit would continue to strengthen the bond between Tenby and the island house.

Clr. Julie Evans said: "It was a great privilege to be invited to the island. Meeting with Father Daniel and the brothers of the community was indeed very special, They made us feel very welcome. Thanks also to Ben Childs, the estate manager, for his kind hospitality."
