Manorbier earned maximum league points in their return fixture at Hook Seconds to consolidate their position near the top of division four.
Manorbier were invited to bat first and once again were given a solid start from openers Keith May and Jeremy Smith. They accumulated 74 for the first wicket before May was bowled by John Palmer for 17.
Smith was next out for 63, an important wicket for Hook as he had looked set for another big innings. Andrew Nally gave valuable support with 37 not out, while Justin Evans (11) and Trevor Staley (17 not out), together with Mr. Extras (34), ensured Manorbier reached an imposing 189 for 5 off their 40 overs.
Palmer was the successful bowler for Hook with 4 for 34.
In their innings, Hook battled hard against the lively Phil Kidney (2 for 26) and there were good contributions from Martin Thomas (25), N. Bulham (22), J. Merchant (31) and D. Petrie (35) as they closed in on Manorbier's total.
The game was finely balanced by the 32nd over, with Hook requiring 42 off the last eight overs with five wickets in hand. However, it was the experienced Trevor Staley, with match figures of 5 for 45 in his nine overs who ensured that the total wasn't threatened any further.
Justin Evans (2 for 47) also bowled well earlier in the innings, and Hook were eventually all out for 157 in the 39th over.
