Sir,

I am writing somewhat belatedly, but no less sincerely, to express thanks to the two guest artists who contributed so greatly to the success of the 'Save Our Music' concert given by Ysgol Greenhill's Performing Arts Department at Folly Farm on May 28.

Renowned conductor Grant Llewellyn, music director of the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra and principal conductor of the Handel and Haydn Society in Boston, flew specially from America to conduct the main Greenhill Orchestra in two pieces: 'Chicago' by John Kander and 'Where Eagles Dare' by Ron Goodwin.

The actor Charles Dale, having received international acclaim with the English Shakespeare Company and in the West End with 'Cyrano de Bergerac' and 'Saint Joan', has also enjoyed success in many popular television series, including 'Coronation Street' and 'Belonging'. To open the concert, he interrupted his busy schedule, filming for his current part in the hospital series 'Casualty'.

These two special artists gave of their own time to support their former school and can be assured that this was much appreciated by pupils, parents and supporters alike.

What a marvellous evening it turned out to be!

Thanks must go to Chevron and Chris Ebsworth, managing director, Folly Farm, for sponsoring the event and to Phil Thompson for his long-standing support; inimitable compère Newman Vincent; all the staff in the Performing Arts Department, and all the peripatetic teachers.

Thanks and congratulations must go, most of all, to the fine musicians of Greenhill, whose enthusiasm and dedication knows no bounds and last but certainly not least, to maestro Paul Rapi.

If anyone has still not witnessed these internationally celebrated musicians in concert, then please go along and see them next time they play.

Also, by attending the next meeting of SPAG (Supporting Performing Arts at Greenhill), details of which can be obtained from school, people can help music continue at Greenhill, and as a result, ensure continuation of music services in Pembrokeshire and beyond.

Jennifer Richards

(former press officer for SOGO, now SPAG),

Tenby.
