The following matters were considered at the annual general meeting of Martletwy Community Council held in Lawrenny on May 12. Chairman and members: At the first meeting since the local government elections, the clerk reported the election without a contest as community councillors of Mr. Roy Eynon, Mrs. Jenny Cole, Mr. Adam Williams and Mrs. Gill Williams, all representing the Martletwy ward. There had been no nominations for the Lawrenny ward. In his last act as outgoing chairman, Mr. Roger Rees oversaw the election of Mrs. Gill Williams as chairman, with Mr. Roy Eynon as vice-chair. It was agreed that a letter of appreciation be sent to the retiring members - Roger Rees, Hilary Hughes, Roger Wood, Keith Schofield, Sue Merriman and Alan Haynes. Vacancies: It was agreed that the two vacant seats for the Lawrenny ward be advertised throughout the community, with a view to seeking expressions of interest from local electors which the council could consider and from which it would hope to make appointments by co-option, the advice of the county council being that further election procedures were not necessary in these circumstances. Persons interested in serving their community in this way are urged to contact the clerk in writing before the date of the next meeting. Planning: The council supported planning applications for the access road to the Waste Water Treatment Plant at Bluestone, which had been realigned to reduce its effect on the Castell Coch ancient monument; and for the 'reserved matters' for the erection of a dwelling at the former Baptist Hall, Martletwy. Observations were submitted on the application for a certificate of lawfulness for the existing use of land for five static residential caravans at Oasis Park, Martletwy. Licensing: There were no observations on applications for new premises licences at Bluestone Holiday Park for the Bluestone Grocery Store and Deli, and for 'Y Tafarn'. Highways matters: The details of the proposed new traffic order introducing a 30 mph speed limit in Martletwy were considered, and there were no adverse comments. The county council will shortly be advertising its proposals. Next meeting: This will be held on Monday, June 9, at 7.30 pm, in Lawrenny Village Hall.
