The following matters were considered at the annual general meeting of the Martletwy Community Council held in Lawrenny on Monday: Clr. Alan Haynes was unanimously elected as chairman for the forthcoming year. He thanked the outgoing chair, Roy Eynon, for his efforts which, he claimed, contributed to 100 years of service to the local community for the Eynon family as a whole! Clr. Roger Wood was elected vice-chairman for the year. Planning: There was support for proposals for a new vehicular access and the relocation of a stable block at Green Plains Cottage, Martletwy, and for the erection of a dwelling at Furzehill Farm, Martletwy. An extension at 4 The Cottages, Landshipping, was opposed on the grounds that it would spoil the overall appearance of the development and risk the creation of an undesirable precedent, and that it could compromise access to the shared drainage system. Finance: The year-end accounts for 2004-5 were finalised and signed off. Audit will take place in July. The clerk's salary was reviewed and amended to bring it into line with the recommendations of the National Association of Local Councils. Code of Conduct: Draft revisions to the Code of Conduct were given initial scrutiny, and would be considered in more detail before responding to the Welsh Assembly Government. The recommendations of the Assembly-appointed Review Group seemed to go some way towards addressing the concerns expressed by local councils. Home security: The council agreed to publicise the availability of the home security equipment supplied and fitted free of charge to older residents and the disabled through the Community Safety Department of Dyfed-Powys Police. Response to this service had been poor locally, and residents are asked to identify those who may be vulnerable (eg. elderly, disabled or living alone) and encourage them to use the service. Requests for assistance can be made directly (Community Safety Dept, 01646 682121 (ext 461) or 01437 771709), or by someone acting on their behalf, or through your local community councillor. The next meeting will be on Monday, June 6, at 7.30 pm, in Lawrenny Village Hall.
