Fundraising team ‘Margaret’s Milers’ have presented a huge cheque for over £10,700 to the Wales Air Ambulance charity.
A?succession of fundraising events culminated in Andrew Jenkins, of Narberth, and 40 friends to run with himself in last year’s Cardiff Half Marathon.
Margaret’s Milers is a group of individuals who formed to participate at the event which took place a year ago on October 1, to raise funds and awareness of the charity Wales Air Ambulance, after the crew attended to Andrew’s mum, Mrs. Margaret Jenkins, after she suffered a massive heart attack, at the NFU office in Narberth in December 2016.
The Wales Air Ambulance crew, arrived on scene within 12 minutes of being scrambled from their base in Llanelli, and along with the professionalism of first responders and paramedics, they revived Margaret Jenkins, restoring a heartbeat and pulse.
The crew, then flew Margaret to Morriston Hospital, Swansea, where despite the best efforts of the medical staff, Margaret tragically passed away, later on that afternoon.
Margaret, was a well known and well loved Narbethian - always having a smile and a hello for anyone she met. Margaret was a much loved dinner lady at Narberth CP School, and a part-time librarian assistant.
As a thank you to the professionalism and dedication of the Wales Air Ambulance, Andrew made the decision to raise some money for the charity and in early 2017, posted an invitation upon Facebook, for his family, friends and colleagues to join him in participating in the Cardiff Half Marathon, with many of his friends and family immediately signing up for the cause.
“Sadly due to work and family commitments, many couldn’t make the cheque presentation to Wales Air Ambulance, but all worked extremely hard in training and raising sponsorship for the Cardiff Half Marathon 2017,” said Andrew.
“We held various events throughout 2017, including a bucket collection at Narberth RFC, a car treasure hunt, fun night, head shave, waxing, raffle and an auction.
“It all culminated in 40 of us taking part in the Half Marathon, and the £10,700 raised is a grand total from all the events.
“None of this would of been possible without the hardwork and dedication of many family, friends and colleagues.
A massive thank you and congratulations goes to all the runners, supporters, fundraisers and helpers along the way.
It was a fantastic team effort raising a fantastic sum of money for the Wales Air Ambulance charity,” he added.
