AMONG those taking part in this year's Flora London Marathon were two Tenby United players, 23-year-old Gavin Brace and 19-year-old James Picton.
Gavin is employed by Keating and King (Narberth) as a carpenter and joiner; while James is currently serving as an operating mechanic 1st class in the Royal Navy, and is awaiting his physical instructors course in June.
Both runners completed the race in 4 hrs. 58 mins. 15 secs. and spoke of their pure excitement of the experience - "the crowds were so encouraging, shouting our names throughout the race."
But by far the most rewarding part was crossing the finishing line, with the feeling of euphoria on their achievement, which was the result of a great deal of hard work and training.
Thanks must go to Tenby United RFC for releasing both Gavin and James as well as the encouragement and good wishes from all their fellow players.
Grateful thanks also to all their official sponsors: N. D. Toy and Partners Insurance Consultants and Independent Financial Advisors; Mike Brace Home Maintenance Services; Llewellyn Sports; BB's Restaurant; the New Inn at Amroth; CEL-VAC; Keating and King Carpentry Contractors; Pat and Mary Watts; Post Office and Londis New Hedges and TEES-R-US.
Finally, James and Gavin would like to thank the many people who donated money towards their selected charity, the Sea Cadet Corps, with an estimated £750 expected for their efforts. Well done.
