A Saundersfoot woman is hoping that a creative event will put her on the fundraising trail to raise funds for a mental health charity, with next year's London Marathon in her sights.

Thirty-nine-year-old Lisa Evans has been fortunate enough to secure a golden band charity place in next year's London Marathon for Mind, the mental health charity.

"I have been set a huge fundraising target of £1,750, which is probably going to be harder to achieve than running 26 miles!" said Lisa, who has organised a fundraiser, with the kind support from The Creative Café, Narberth, to kickstart her campaign.

"This will be my first marathon, I have previously run two half-marathons, so lots of training ahead," she explained. "I find running very good for my own mental health and an excellent way of dealing with stress/anxiety.

"I have been surrounded with people who have mental health problems for most of my life and am involved caring and supporting a family member.

"The charity Mind provide much-needed advice and support to over 250,000 people across England and Wales who are experiencing a mental health problem.

"They also campaign to improve services and promote awareness and understanding. Each week, over 100 people in the UK take their own lives and more than 100,000 people per year spend time in hospital for a mental health problem," she continued.

The charity event will take place at Narberth's Creative Café in Spring Gardens, on Sunday, December 14, from 11 am to 2 pm. People will be able to go along and create their own personalised masterpiece, which might make for an ideal Christmas present

Tickets, to include a piece of pottery, coffee and a mince pie, are at £15, with early booking advisable as places are limited. There will also be a raffle, with some great prizes to be won.

"I have written to some local businesses, requesting any help available, and Bluestone have kindly donated a family ticket to the Blue Lagoon, which will be awarded at the event for the best painted pottery piece, along with other great prizes from the Creative Cafe," added Lisa.
