Manorbier Under 16 Girls started the new year with an emphatic away win against close rivals Llanelli, keeping them firmly at the top of the West Wales League.
Playing with a strong wind behind them in the first half, Manorbier went ahead after only two minutes through Hannah Lewis following some neat passing from Angharad James, Mari Griffiths and Sam Lewtas.
With Molly Furnival-Doran continually pushing forward from the back and Lewis and James dominating midfield, Manorbier had total control of the game and, with Mari Griffiths running the Llanelli defence ragged, the girls went in at half-time with a comfortable 4-1 lead.
The big challenge for Manorbier in the second half was to stop Llanelli taking advantage of having the wind in their favour. Not only did they achieve this, but again went further ahead early on and had a further goal disallowed shortly afterwards.
To be fair to Llanelli, they put Manorbier under pressure for periods in the second half, but a solid display from defenders Hayley Lewis, Angharad Jenkins, Rachel Hughes and Ellie Robinson kept them out for most of the game.
Ffion Ashman in goal was a spectator for most of the game, but when called upon was in fine form, pulling off a stunning save late in the second half.
The game ended at 6-2 to Manorbier, with Hannah Lewis and Mari Griffiths left to fight over the match ball after both scoring hat-tricks.
