A local man has appeared before magistrates on a drink drive charge in what his solicitor has described as a 'stark example of how a night's sleep does not necessarily eliminate alcohol from your system'.
Thirty-two-year-old Mark David Webber had attended a wedding the day before being stopped by police, and although he had been drinking at the event, he did not think he would be over the limit when he went to work the next morning, magistrates sitting in Tenby heard on Tuesday.
Webber, of 27 Swallow Dale, Saundersfoot was seen by a police motorcyclist driving along the A478 road into Tenby shortly before 9.30 am on March 24, crown prosecutor, Mr. Nick Newton said.
The motorcyclist followed Webber, who works at the caravan sales department at Kiln Park, and clocked him travelling at a speed in excess of the 30 mph speed limit as he entered Tenby.
When the officer stopped Webber and spoke to him, he could smell intoxicants on his breath.
A positive roadside breath test proved positive and a subsequent intoxiliser test at the police station showed a level of 47 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of breath. As the reading was between 40 and 50 mg, Webber opted to give a blood sample, which revealed he was over the drink-drive limit with 96 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. The legal limit is 80 mg.
Webber, who was represented by Mr. Paul Cowper, had co-operated fully with the police and will now be relying on his bike to get him to work.
Webber, who admitted driving with excess alcohol, was banned from driving for 12-months and fined £250. He was also ordered to pay £30 costs.
