A man who stole food from a supermarket in Pembroke Dock whilst drunk pleaded guilty to the offence at Haverfordwest magistrates court this week.
Fifty-seven-year-old Alan Webber, of Law Street, Pembroke Dock, appeared before magistrates on Tuesday charged with the theft from Asda on March 12.
Prosecutor Ellie Morgan told the court that a security guard in the store had seen the defendant sitting beyond the tills shortly after 4 pm.
Mr. Webber appeared to be drunk and when he was approached by the guard he picked up three pasties and a chicken sandwich and walked out of the store.
After being arrested, the defendant told police that he had drunk a three-litre bottle of cider before going to the store and was "half cut".
He explained that he was annoyed that he couldn't find his wallet which he believed had been stolen earlier that day and admitted that he had gone to the store to pinch food as he was hungry.
The defendant's solicitor, Mr. James Subbiani, told magistrates that it had been 10 years since his client was last in court and that he had made a foolish decision to steal as he was upset that his wallet had been stolen after collecting his benefits that morning.
Magistrates gave Mr. Webber a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay £3.85 compensation to the Asda store in Pembroke Dock.
He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £15 victim surcharge.
